MARGAO: The accident caught them unawares as some of them had come to have their evening tea, while others, including the mother-daughter duo of Nifa and Neomi, had just stepped in in the general store to purchase milk, when the ill-fated truck rammed into the tea stall-cum-general store Monday evening.
For a second, they did not know what had happened as they all found themselves trapped inside with bleeding injuries. Nifa and Neomi suffered the brunt of the accident as they had just entered the stall, while the other injured ~ the owner Nilesh Karpe, was at the tea stall counter. Nifa, who was rushed to the Hospicio in a police jeep, was writhing in pain as she was sent to the radiology department for an X-ray. While she is believed to have fractured her hip bone, her daughter’s condition was said to be more critical as she had suffered internal bleeding.
The Hospicio authorities made arrangements and later in the evening moved the duo to the GMCat Bambolim.
Two BSNL employee Nalesh Chodankar and Arif Khan, who were about to come out of the stall after having tea, were also injured in the accident. Nalesh told Herald at the Hospicio that he along with Arif and two other BSNL employees had gone for tea in the stall after their duty hours. “We were inside the stall for around 10 minutes. After having tea, we were about to leave the stall when the truck rammed into the structure,” he said.
While Nalesh sustained injuries on his forehead, Arif escaped with a cut on his toe.
