The Cyber Crime Police Station has successfully apprehended the accused in a cyber bullying case involving the transmission of sexually explicit content via Instagram. The case, registered under Case No. 24/2024 u/s 67 & 67-A of the IT Act, stemmed from a complaint filed by a resident of Margao, South – Goa, who reported that prior to 16/04/2024, an individual, operating under the Instagram handle “akshu_jagtap_xx,” had sent obscene material containing sexually explicit acts through the platform, subsequently subjecting the victim to bullying.
Arrest: The accused, identified as Mr. Vinay, a 20-year-old student residing in Canacona, South Goa, was apprehended after meticulous investigation by a dedicated team led by PSI Sarvesh Sawant, PSI Sherwin Dacosta, PC-8265 Ibrahim Karol, and Hemant Gaonkar, under the supervision of Dy. SP Cyber Crime Ashish, and Rahul Gupta IPS, SP Cyber Crime. Following extensive efforts and a pursuit spanning a considerable duration, the accused was arrested from Canacona.
Accused Profile: Vinay, son of Gopi Gaonkar, hailing from Nanem, Gaodongrem, Canacona, has confessed to his involvement in the crime. Currently enrolled in an ITI, he now faces the legal consequences of his actions.
Recovery: Evidence, including chats between the victim and the accused, as well as alleged obscene videos, was recovered from the accused’s phone. The device will undergo forensic examination to further bolster the investigation.
Modus Operandi: Investigations unveiled that the accused had created a fake Instagram profile under an assumed name and initiated contact with the complainant. Subsequently, he transmitted objectionable content through the platform in an attempt to coerce the victim into sexual favors.
Advisory to the Public: Authorities issue a stern advisory urging the public to exercise vigilance when engaging with social media accounts, particularly those of dubious authenticity. It is imperative to verify the legitimacy of any online profiles before proceeding with video chats or any form of communication to mitigate the risks associated with cyber crimes.
