MAPUSA: The Fast Track court on Friday granted conditional bail to 24-year-old accused Sachin Rana, a native of Uttarakhand in the 2015 rape case of a minor girl, who was working as a housemaid in Porvorim.
After hearing the arguments of both sides, Judge Bela Naik granted him conditional bail against a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with one local surety and with the condition to attend court as and when required.
The accused had moved a bail application stating that he was falsely implicated by the sister of the minor girl. He further stated that he was in judicial custody for 15 months but the prosecution has failed to scan even a single witness in the case.
The advocate on behalf of accused said the complainant and the victim were called on several occasion but they failed to appear before the court.
The public prosecutor on the other hand, while defending victim said the victim had failed to appear as she was married and was presently residing with her husband’s family.
She further feared that if they came to know about the case, it could affect her married life.
The police said that if the accused was granted bail there were possibilities of him absconding to his native place Uttarakhand.
