Accused in kidnapping for ransom case gets life imprisonment

In the 2018 incident, Vasco Police had chargesheeted three accused; one of the accused is presently absconding after being released on bail

MARGAO: In a kidnapping for ransom case filed by Vasco Police Station, the South Goa Additional Sessions Judge, Margao, Kshama Joshi on Friday convicted accused Abdul Kadar Javali r/o New Vaddem, Vasco to life imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,a000  as a deterrent punishment and acquitted another accused Salim Khan after giving him the benefit of doubt. 

The third accused Rajendra Kumar Kahar is presently absconding after being released on bail and being proceeded under section 299 CrPC. The incident occurred in June 2018, wherein the accused persons had kidnapped a businessman from Vasco demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. 

Public Prosaecutor Devanand Korgaonkar appeared on a of the prosecution and the Court examined 29 witnesses. The accused Abdul Kadar Javali was represented by Amit Palekar whereas the second accused Salim Khan was represented by Adv K Viegas. The case was investigated and chargesheeted by the then Incharge of Vasco Police Station and presently the Vice Principal, PTS, Valpoi Nolasco Raposo.

The incident had earlier created a fear psychosis in the minds of businessmen at Vasco, however, the blind case was cracked by the Vasco police within 24 hours.
