PANJIM: The Mapusa Police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old youth from Madhya Pradesh for allegedly kidnapping a girl from Girls Hostel located within Mapusa Police Station jurisdiction.
According to the police, on January 7, the warden of the Girls Hostel, Mapusa, lodged a complaint against an unknown person that one girl, aged 14 years, had left for shopping in Mapusa market in the afternoon but did not come back.
The Mapusa Police had registered an FIR under Sections 363 IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act. As per instructions of Mapusa DySP Jivba Dalvi, PI Shitakant Nayak, incharge of Mapusa Police Station, constituted teams with instructions to collect the intelligence in respect of accused involved. The accused was found to be on the move with the victim girl.
SDPO Dalvi contacted his counterparts in Mumbai after which police staff was deputed at Navpada, Mumbai and after thorough human and technical intelligence, the victim and the accused were traced at Mumbai. They were later brought to Goa.
The accused has been identified as Akshay Manohar Tayde, a native of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He has been remanded in police custody.
The investigation team consisted of PSIs Sunil Patil and Gaurav Naik, head constable Sushant Chopdekar and constables Rajesh Kandolkar and Prakash Polekar and lady constable Siddhi Harmalkar, all attached to Mapusa Police Station.
Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of PI Shitakant Nayak, DySP Jivba Dalvi and SP North, Nidhin Valsan, IPS.
