MARGAO: After meeting all parties associated with the Sonsoddo issue, Additional Collector Prasanna Acharya called for an amicable solution to the issue and termed the issue of mixed waste as minor problem.
There appears to be no respite to the town residents from the piling up of uncollected garbage in Margao and Fatorda. Mediating on the issue, Acharya met the MMC and Fomento officials and inspected the Sonsoddo site.
The meeting was initiated following Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai calling upon the Additional Collector to mediate and try to work out a solution to the garbage crisis in the town. “We have requested the top management of Fomento to adopt a more humanitarian approach to the garbage issue,” said Acharya.
“I have spoken to Fomento and visited Sonsoddo to understand the bottlenecks. The major problem we noticed there was the non-segregated waste. The Deputy Chief Minister has taken steps to mediate and solve the issue. A positive outcome is expected. The Chief Officer has assured to clear all the black spots in the town where garbage dumping is rampant and has assured to clear the same by Friday evening,” added Acharya.
“The processed dump has 700 tonnes of rejects, which need to be cleared from the plant. Since the operations at the plant close after 6 pm, we have asked to the top management of the Fomento to extend the time to clear the garbage from the plant as soon as possible,” Acharya said.
However, according to MMC officials, one of the hired trucks, which was working earlier in the day, left at six pm and was not available later in the evening and that MMC would have to work out a new arrangement on the rates for the same to be accomplished.
