PONDA: Tension rent the air along the Dhavlim-Bythakhol Road in the wee hours of Wednesday following reports of leakage from a tanker laden with hydrochloric acid.
Videos and photos of acid leakage went viral on social media till late evening alerting the travellers not to commute along the route on account of the leakage.
However, no untoward incident was reported.
After receiving information about the incident, Ponda Fire Station in-charge rushed to the spot immediately along with his staff.
“As a precautionary measure, traffic along the route on both sides was diverted via other route,” said Ponda Fire Station in-charge Sushil Morajkar.
The acid from the tanker leaked as the tank developed cracks. The acid leakage resulted in the release of gas. Under the guidance of the experts, who were summoned by the fire officials, the acid was safely transferred to another vehicle.
Ponda fire personnel used six fire tenders to bring the situation under control at around 11 am.
