MAPUSA: The residents of Acoi Kamarkhajan on Tuesday raised concern over the alleged illegal land filling in the fields of Kamarkhajan.
The residents claimed that the builders doing construction in Mapusa have filled the agricultural land by dumping construction debris and mud.
They further alleged that the illegal land filling is carried out with the blessings of a former councillor, who they claimed have supported the builders in the dumping.
The residents said that the fields act as a sponge which soaks the rain water in the monsoon. However, now after filling the land with mud and debris, it’s going to flood the area since there is no source for the water to go.
“This alleged illegal land filling is going to affect the residents during the monsoon as it’s going to flood the area. This is going to have a bad impact since these fields act as sponge which soaks rainwater. This illegal activity is carried out with the blessing of a former councilor,” a local said.
