PANJIM: Congress MLA and Chairman of Curtorim Co-operative Service Society Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has dared Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to act against the defaulters of the Goa State Co-Operative Bank Ltd.
“I challenge the Chief Minister to act on the defaulters. If he doesn’t, the bank will close and I will hold him responsible,” he said addressing a press conference at the bank premise in the capital on Monday.
However, Lourenco emphasised that the present functioning of the bank is “fair” but it can be made “better” with a lot of streamlining. “My fight should not be construed that the bank is not performing or it is on the verge of closure. It is in a good position but I am after them to protect the bank. The bank should function properly and software be developed. I also want that audit be carried out by NABARD,” he demanded.
The legislator, who also heads the banking counter in his constituency, further stated that it is his duty to protect his people’s deposit of Rs 78 lakh in the bank.
“As chairman of the bank, which is under the Co-Operative Bank, I have to protect the interest of my people. If anything happens to their money, I will have to hang myself,” he said reiterating that the bank officials have assured him that they are upgrading their system.
