PANJIM: The expose on the alleged sex scandal has rattled the BJP with some members of the core committee advising the party leaders to take action or face consequences in the upcoming polls.
Sources said that unhappy with the revelations made by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar at a press conference on Tuesday, the BJP core group at a meeting on Wednesday sought immediate rectification.
“Party should take action else the damage will be irreparable. We are inching closer to the 2022 polls. Party should act without any delay. Whether or not the Congress has named the minister, the incident is harming the reputation of other ministers in the cabinet,” sources said.
The members were then told that the matter has been forwarded to the central leadership and a response on whether action needs to be taken is awaited.
Party president Sadanand Shet Tanavade, however, played down the issue claiming that Congress should name the minister. “He is shooting an arrow in the air. Why is he not disclosing the name? No police complaint has been filed,” he said pointing at Chodankar’s incomplete disclosure about the alleged sex scandal.
Asked if the party will act against the concerned minister, Tanavade said it was too early to speak on it.
Another source said it was a political gimmick as the alleged victim has also not come forward with any complaint.
The core committee also discussed preparedness for the upcoming polls. BJP election in-charge for Goa, Devendra Fadnavis, and Goa desk in charge, C T Ravi, will arrive in Goa on December 4 for election related meetings. It is not known how long they will be in the State.
