VASCO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Sunday urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to take the Opposition and residents of Vasco into confidence and act quickly with regards to enforcing the lockdown in the port town to bring down the number of COVID-19 cases.
Reginaldo said, “Several COVID cases have spiked in Vasco and this is a very dangerous situation. If necessary steps are not taken quickly then there will be a problem. We have come here to work in the interest of Vasco people and not to do politics at this point of time”.
“Many MLAs like Cortalim MLA, Vasco MLA, councillors and chairperson are asking for Vasco lockdown then why there is no lockdown in the port town,” he questioned.
Reginaldo said, “One vessel has arrived with coal in port town and I have given a complained to Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). This coal will again pollute Vasco. I feel there are a few vested interests for not imposing Vasco lockdown”.
He suggested that CM could also think of having a makeshift hospital in the Vasco area looking at the spike in COVID cases. If need be, more doctors and medical staff should be brought from outside State.
Reginaldo urged the Chief Minister to act fast.
“If for a month’s time, proper precautions and steps are taken by locking down Vasco we can bring COVID cases to zero,” he said.
