MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has red flagged the high polluting units in Cuncolim Industrial Estate (CIE) by sending a letter to the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (GSEIAA) demanding stringent action.
“High levels of Pollution in Cuncolim Industrial Estate are a major health hazard for local residents. Despite repeated complaints, media reports exposing the water and air pollution caused by the industrial units, the authorities have turned a blind eye and allowed polluting units to continue with their operations,” Alemao stated in his letter.
The Cuncolim MLA urged the GSEIAA to take serious cognisance of this issue by taking stringent action against all polluting units. “I hope the authority will not compel us to protest which may result in law and order issues,” he added.
