MARGAO: Taking serious note of the illegal business mushrooming by the roadside, a group of citizens of Margao on Monday demanded immediate action against such illegal vendors.
Sharmad Raiturkar and a few others called upon the Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar and deliberated on the issue.
He also complained that these illegal vendors were creating nuisance in the city by dumping waste by the roadside and even in holy places.
The Chairperson assured to act within eight days and informed that instructions will be issued to the concerned officers to initiate action against all illegalities.
“It is shocking to witness that illegal business activities have been increasing in the commercial city of Margao and more shocking is that neither the police nor the civic body has any information of these vendors,” said Raiturkar.
He further demanded that all illegal vendors operating from the roadside, gutters and footpaths should be removed immediately. “We can witness such types of illegal business activities in the jurisdiction of Margao and there is no check on who these people are. Several migrants are also involved in illegal business activities,” he alleged. Responding to the issue, Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar also admitted that there are illegal business activities, mostly along the roadside and footpaths.
“The issue raised by the citizens is a genuine one and hence the civic body will initiate action at the earliest,” he assured.
