“A committee under the chairmanship of commissioner & secretary (TCP) has been constituted with representatives of various departments to devise a policy on various aspects of hill cutting,” stated Chief Minister Digambar Kamat while responding to a Calling Attention moved by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco in the House today.
The Curtorim MLA had raised the grievance regarding illegal hill cutting at Consua in Village panchayat Cortalim- Quelossim jurisdiction. He said no action has been taken inspite of several complaints both oral and written.
The Chief Minister said action has been taken pursuant to the complaint — site inspection was carried out by the officials of the Mormugao taluka office and has filed a complaint with Verna Police Station on March 25.
As per section 17 A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1974, prior permission of the Chief Town Planner is required for cutting of sloppy and permissions are issued as per the guidelines. As defined under the Act, sloppy land is any land having gradient more than 1:10.
