CURCHOREM: About 300 residents from Curchorem urged Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) to take action against mobile towers in Curchorem, if they are found to be illegal.
The residents in their letter to CCMC stated that some residents from Carriamoddi-Curchorem objected to erection of mobile towers because of personal vested interest and not because of radiation and its ill effects as it is being shown.
The residents further stated that Bebquegal ward itself has three mobile towers surrounded by three schools and a hospital and another two towers at a distance of about 90 metres, which are standing tall for over two-three decades without any incident of ill effects on the health of any individual having been reported or heard off.
A copy of the letter has also been submitted to the Curchorem legislator , deputy collector, Quepem and Curchorem police.
Meanwhile, in a letter to a local news channel, CCMC has requested a copy of the CD recording of the anti-encroachment drive, which was carried out by the council on July 29, to conduct an enquiry into the allegation made by the traders. The drive was covered by the local channel.
It may be recalled that traders from SUDA market had alleged that councillors and CCMC staff are allegedly demanding ‘haftas’ from them. However, during emergency meeting convened by the council, it was decided to investigate into the matter.
