MARGAO: Shreyesh Shirodkar, a resident of Housing Board, has alleged that corruption in the Public Works Department was resulting in duplication of work and consequent waste of funds.
Referring to the e-tender issued on September 4, 2018, inviting bids for six works, he said the first three mentioned works have been undertaken already, as such, “this is a mere attempt to usurp government money.”
“While these works have been completed, what the authorities are doing us using the pretext of ‘left out road’ to invite tenders for works already completed and where the roads are in pretty good condition,” he said. Citing the example mentioned third in the tender form which pertains to internal roads and the road from Gudi Junction to Alma Khuris in Chandor Cavorim panchayat, he said this work was already tendered and completed in May 2018 and the road leading to Alma Khuris is in pretty good condition.
In fact, the work done at Chandor Cavorim was incomplete as the stretch of road in Cotta area was not asphalted since it started raining and locals had a harrowing time during the monsoons travelling on this road.
In fact the locals from the area even met MLA Clafasio Dias who had assured them that the Cotta stretch would be asphalted once the monsoons are over.
Shreyesh asserted that the work was tendered for Rs 2.65 crore earlier and is now estimated at Rs 3.08 crore. He demanded that the three works proposed in the tender be first physically inspected with the local people and further demanded that the contractors who had done the works earlier be barred from bidding for the three works.
