Activist calls for action against drunk driving, but state ill equipped ?

In view of the increasing number of accidents taking place due to drunk and negligent driving, Social Activist Xencor Polji has demanded that the police should be vigilant and conduct alcohol tests to reduce the number of accident fatalities. After the tragedy at Zuari Bridge on July 28 where four people lost their lives and the recent accident on November 26 where a woman was killed after a car driven by a drunk driver rammed into her, Polji has stated that police should conduct tests every night and on weekends. But are there enough breath alcohol analyzers in the state?

Unfortunately, there are just 100 breath alcohol analyzers in the entire State of which 34 are currently non-functional for different but alarming lengths of time. It is provided to 42 police stations which also include traffic cells, which have the status of police stations, which works out to less than 3 alcometers per police station on average, though the main town police stations have been allotted more
