Activist groups to call on Margao chief officer

MARGAO:  Taking cognisance of the stoppage of sanitary landfill site at Sonsodo, representatives of various city-based organisations have decided to call on MMC chief officer to seek clarification of certain issues highlighted by media reports in recent days.

A group of citizens representing Margao Gadda Traders’ Association, Amrutnagar Residents’ Association, Konkani Bhasha Mandal and other prominent citizens of Margao will call on the CO on Monday and ensure that the Sonsodo plant is fully commissioned at the earliest.

Prashant Naik, representing Margao Gadda Trader’s Association told the media that Margao citizens were overjoyed when three years ago, the Margao Municipal Council entered into an agreement with Fomento to set up the Solid Waste Management Plant at Sonsoddo. The citizens noted that the project is being deliberately delayed because of certain vested interests, adding that the progress on landfill and door-to-door collection facility appears unsatisfactory.
