MARGAO: Against the backdrop of a handful of activists being charged by both the Goa Police and Railway Police for their involvement in the historic November 2020 protest in Chandor against double tracking, questions have been raised as to why turncoat MLAs, who were part of the agitation, have not been charged by the police.
It may be recalled that on November 1 and 2, 2020, more than 5,000 persons had participated in the mega protest against the double tracking work being carried out by the Railways.
The accused have questioned why turncoat BJP MLAs such as Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Sequeira, Sankalp Amonkar as well Independent MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, who now supports the BJP government, are not facing any charges.
Vikas Bhagat, one of the accused activists questioned the selective targeting and selective exclusion of those like the four MLAs.
Two of these legislators were former Congress MLAs.
While both the State and Central governments do not appear to be backing down with the case, those who participated in the protests recalled how these MLAs as well the likes of IT Minister Rohan Khaunte were all supporting their agitation during the tenure of the previous BJP government.
