Activists call on RS MP Faleiro, push for political reservation for ST community

MARGAO: A delegation of activists from ‘Mission political reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa’ met Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro at his residence in Margao on Tuesday and submitted a representation regarding reservation of seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Goa’s Legislative Assembly.

It may be recalled that Faleiro had earlier raised this issue in the upper house of the parliament on April 6 last year, when he had demanded reservation of seats in the Assembly for the ST community. During his speech in the parliament, the MP had highlighted how the ST of Goa are being denied their constitutional right as enshrined under Article 330 and Article 332 of the Constitution of India.

The delegation thanked him for raising this issue in the parliament and once again requested him to bring this to the notice of the upper house and demand for reservation of seats for STs in Goa Assembly.

Faleiro has assured them that he will once again raise the issue during the upcoming session. He assured to give them his full support to intensify this movement in Goa if the demand of ST Community is not fulfilled.

The delegation that met the MP on Tuesday consisted of the following members, Adv John Fernandes (President), Rupesh Velip (General Secretary), Govind Shirodkar (Advisor), Rachol Sarpanch Joseph Vaz, Davorlim Sarpanch Herculean Niasso, panch of Sao Jose de Areal Joyce Dias and others like Francisco Culaso, Mahesh Kunkoliekar, Caitan Carvalho, Constantino Faleiro and Ravindra Velip.
