MARGAO: Activist Dattaram Nayak (of Navelim) and Sanjeev Veling (of Ponda) have written to the chief minister as well as several other officers to appoint two committees to look into the affairs of Registered Devasthan in Goa.
In the letter, Nayak and Veling have stated that various illegalities and irregularities are taking place in the Devasthan and crores of rupees are misappropriated as they do not follow the Devasthan Regulations and hence the managing committees and mahajans are having a tussle.
They further stated that various registered Devasthans are selling land illegally; are illegally constructing/renovating structures, cutting hills and trees, constructing in No-Development zones, constructing without following Article 145 and 147 of Devasthan Regulations.
Further, they allege that there is no provision for garbage; give halls and rooms for rent and money is received as donations among several other irregularities.
They state that at present the Administrator of Devalayas has no chartered accountant, engineer, surveyor or architect to look into the affairs of the registered Devasthan in Goa and hence the cases which are pending cannot be disposed off.
They have requested that two co-committees be appointed to look into the affairs of the Devasthans which have the required professionals in the interest of the Devasthans and to safeguard the wealth of the Devasthan.
Nayak informed that the Collectors have forwarded their letter to the Mamlatdars and asked them to submit a report on the matter.
