MARGAO: Some activists taking strong objections to property fairs organised in Goa, said the government should first come out with a proper land policy before permitting mega housing projects in the State particularly since the Regional Plan is not yet prepared.
Briefing media persons Laurel Abranches of United Goans Welfare Front said non-Goan builders are developing huge properties in Goa which cannot be purchased by any Goan and are meant only for non-Goans or non-Resident Indians and therefore objected to Goan properties being offered at different fairs.
“The flats cost around Rs 1 crore and no Goan can purchase such flats,” he said adding that these projects severely strain the already over stretched infrastructure in the State and demanded that the government put in place proper infrastructure first before letting any more mega projects to come up.
“The electricity supply is erratic, water supply is not regular, we do not have proper roads and sewerage network is not complete and how can we afford such mega projects in our tiny state of Goa,” he asked and suggested that the government utilise alternate energy sources like wind and solar energy to augment our electricity supply.
The activists said that they would submit a memorandum to the chief secretary shortly.
