The civic society is also planning to take up with the chief officer the alleged high handedness of a senior municipal official with one of its members last week.
Though MMC Chief Officer Naveen S L had issued the demolition order on March 25, the illegal structure occupied by the MMC chairperson remains where it is till date. No doubt, the civic body has requested the South Goa demolition squad to raze down the illegal structure, but the district authorities have till date not fixed the demolition on grounds that the squad has already fixed six demolitions for the month of April.
Many an eyebrow has been raised in the district collectorate as to why the Margao municipality is not razing down the structures given that it has an army of labourers at its disposal. “If a request comes from the Margao Municipality, the district authorities can provide police protection to the civic body for the demolition,” remarked a senior district official.
With the municipal and the district authorities pushing the buck on each other, members of the civil Society have now decided to protest and seek firm assurance from the authorities that the illegal structure of the chairperson is demolished within a set time frame.
Complainant Savio Dias has alleged that the authorities are delaying the demolition to pre-empt filing of disqualification petition against Gonzaco.
