Activists rally for tiger reserve

Decide to go to all panchayats, PTAs, religious places, NGOs, sports clubs, etc, to adopt resolutions to declare Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as a tiger reserve

PANJIM: Activists under the banner ‘Save Mhadei Save Tiger’ has decided to call on all the local bodies including panchayats and municipalities requesting them to pass a resolution to declare Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as a tiger reserve. 

Addressing a press conference, activist Rajan Ghate said that declaring Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as a tiger reserve will give a big boost to State’s fight against Karnataka’s Mhadei River diversion plan. 

“If we declare Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as tiger reserve, our Mhadei River diversion case will become strong in the Supreme Court,” he said. 

Ghate said that under ‘Save Mhadei Save Tiger’ initiative, it is been decided to go to all the panchayats, PTAs, religious places, NGOs, sports clubs, etc., and urge them to adopt resolutions to declare Mhadei as a tiger reserve. 

“We also want all the political parties to come on single platform to ‘Save Mhadei and Save Tiger’,” he said. 

The activists have already called upon all the panchayats and municipal areas in Tiswadi Taluka and on Wednesday, they intend to cover Pernem Taluka. The activists will also hold a bike rally from Corgao in support of tiger reserve.
