PANJIM: Activists across Goa have voiced their strong concern over the expose by Herald TV through its investigative show ‘Ground Zero’ exposing major illegal activities taking place within the Mhadei Sanctuary.
Activists have questioned the government over rampant tree felling to illegal sand mining taking place within the sanctuary and surrounding areas, and have demanded immediate action and criticised the government for the rampant illegalities.
Activist Xencor Polji said, “This Goa government is not in favour of saving environment and ecology.”
“The government has allowed the looting of Mhadei river. Trees have been burnt. Animals are entering human habitation areas. This government is here to destroy environment,” Xencor Polji said.
He urged people to come out in support of the cause and warned that their kids will suffer if they do not do so. Protesters highlighted the impact of river diversion which is seen in PernemTaluka where people are forced to dig borewells for potable water.
RTI activist Rajan Ghate said, “Tiger reserve is a realistic solution given by Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar. Mhadei wildlife sanctuary is a lifeline of Goans and letting it to destroy will spell doom for us.”
A large number of activists participated in the Save Mhadei Save Tiger bike rally at Chicalim.
