MARGAO: Women activists have welcomed the Goa government’s decision to approve the amendment to the Factories Act which will pave the way for employment of women in night shifts in industries.
Activists Auda Viegas and Jyoti Kunkolienkar have thanked the Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai for giving priority to women.
“We welcome the move and congratulate the Deputy Chief Minister for the step taken towards empowerment and employment for women,” said Auda Viegas of the Bailancho Ekvott. “Deputy Chief Minister has shown that he is a public representative,” Viegas said.
Auda further said that sexual harassment at the workplace and safety of women while travelling to work and back is also something that has to be critically looked into by the government.
Writer and Women Activist Jyoti Kunkolienkar said, “Long time ago Parrikar had removed Baina. It was necessary then as the women of Goa were being bad named due to that activity there. He had the courage to remove it from there and we women of Goa will remain indebted to him always.”
