Bollywood actress Mahima Choudhary has supported the heritage festival planned in Margao and Fatorda on the lines of Panjim’s Fontainhas festival.
The initiative was announced at a get-together organized by GPCC general secretary Vijay Sardesai’s charity “We for Fatorda” and attended by Bollywood star Mahima, prominent citizens, a host of Goa MMinisters, City Fathers and social workers at his residence on Tuesday evening.
Saying that Comba, Abade Faria road, Old Market, and areas near the Holy Spirit Church and Borda exhibited one of the best forms of heritage architecture, Sardesai said that recreating the concept of heritage festival on lines of the now extinct Panaji’s Fontainhas Festival has been his dream and had even featured in his election manifesto in the last assembly elections.
He elaborated that his charity ‘We for Fatorda’ had initiated serious discussions in this regard with Chief Minister Digamber Kamat and Tourism Minister Nilkanth Haldankar to ensure that this festival is organised within the next 4 to 5 months. “The Chief Minister has shown an inclination to have this festival since his views were in consonance with the intention of the festival which was to preserve heritage and thus conserve our culture and exhibit the same for local as well as tourism sectors”, he added.
The GPCC Gen. Secy said that giving a face lift to most heritage homes and beautifying the surroundings to give a nostalgic effect to the Latin Quarter of the city would form an integral part of the festival’s organisation.
Questioned as to the presence of Bollywood stars for the dinner sojourn, Sardesai said getting endorsement of glamour to a festival aimed at conserving and showcasing Goan architectural heritage for posterity was nothing wrong.
The Bollywood Star Mahima Choudhary said Goa with its endless beauty was the best tourist destination in the Country. Its wide variety of cultures and traditions in addition to the beautiful beaches and the hospitable nature of Goans attracted one and all from abroad as well as other parts of the country. “With the tourism boon and consenquent commercialization it was important not to forget one’s own heritage and culture”, she said, while committing her wholehearted support to the heritage festival.
