PONDA: Some village farmers from Bhoma-Adcolna, who have been requesting a bypass through fields, have blamed a politician for dividing villagers over the proposed NH-4A road widening project.
It may be recalled that the request for a bypass road through fields attracted ire of other farmers from the village and majority of the panchayat members assured that they will not allow the road to pass through the fields.
Addressing media at Ponda on Friday evening, the farmers who were in favour of bypass road through fields claimed that the issue has been “politically motivated”.
“During the Assembly election, politicians had assured us NH4A bypass road through fields, but now the situation is different. This is all politically motivated with an aim to divide the village over the issue,” stated a villager, Vishwanath Maujekar.
Added another resident, Surya Bhomkar: “The issue is simply being politicised. The politicians must work to unite villagers and solve the problem amicably. It is wrong to play with the sentiments of the villagers. We had only suggested for bypass road as it was earlier assured by the politicians themselves.”
The villagers sought to know why the government till date failed to take people into confidence over the proposed NH4A road widening project.
“Till date, there is no information on the proposed road widening project. We don’t know how many houses will be demolished. With much of confusion over the project, how can anyone expect us to keep quiet? That is why we had suggested for bypass road through fields,” said Sanjay Naik.
“We are also farmers and we don’t want the cultivated land to be destroyed, but road can be taken through the uncultivated land,” added Naik.
