Additional 30 hectares of fallow land brought under cultivation in Chinchinim

CHINCHINIM: The Chinchinim Agricultural Club (CAC), farmers and Chinchinim comunidade through their unified efforts, have managed to bring about 30 hectares of fallow land under  cultivation in Patto fields, near St Sebastian Chapel, Bandfoll, Chinchinim on Monday.

This is in addition to the 50 hectares of land they had earlier brought under cultivation nearby at Digaum band.

Speaking to O Heraldo, CAC President Furtado said they were following the same concept and ideology at the Patto fields as they did with their earlier initiative at Diguam Bund, which is on the opposite side of the national highway. 

He further acknowledged the support and services provided for both set of fields, by Fr George Quadros of the Don Bosco Society including the use of drones, which is used for the economic and efficient spraying of fertilisers and pesticides.

Furtado added that on Monday six tractors simultaneously ploughed the Patto fields, where rice will be grown. Incidentally, fields at Diguam Bund were harvested before the commissioning of the Patto fields on the other side of the highway.

Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister 

Subhash Shirodkar, commissioned this project titled ‘Sow and Grow, Make the Environment Clean and Green’ that is aimed reviving agriculture at Patto fields. 

Shirodkar lauded the efforts of CAC and the local community for this initiative at Patto fields and also for their success in harvesting the fields at Diguam bund, which was lying fallow for almost three decades, lauded the efforts by CAC and the local community. He appealed to the farmers to make the Chinchinim a model village of Goa in cultivation activities.

The farmers had earlier thanked the WRD for providing water from the canals to their fields, which has helped their twin projects. 

The Chinchinim village panchayat, the Agriculture Department, the trustee members of St Sebastian Chapel, the Velim MLand other stakeholders were also thanked for their support.
