PANJIM: Goa Police today did not rule out the possibility of pressing additional charges against Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal, who has been booked for sexual assault against a woman colleague in a five-star hotel in the state.
Deputy Inspector General of Police O P Mishra told reporters during a press conference at the police headquarters that many things have emerged during the probe and if required, additional charges would be pressed against the accused.
Mishra said the police are yet to establish contacts with Tejpal, the accused in the case. “As of now, we have not established contact with Tejpal. But we will proceed as per the standard protocol followed in such cases,” he said.
“At appropriate time, we will get in touch. But I will not tell you at what time we will be getting in touch with him,” the DIG said.
The deputy inspector general of police on Sunday warned that cases will be filed against people who attempt to reveal the identity of the victim or reveal explicit details of the incident in which Tejpal is reported to have forced himself upon a junior colleague in the elevator of a hotel in Goa during their recently concluded Thinkfest here.
Speaking to media persons after the return of the team to the state, Deputy Inspector General O P Mishra has also said that their visit, though without meeting the accused himself, was successful.
“The team visited the Tehelka office and quizzed managing editor Shoma Chaudhury, besides collecting evidence in the form of relevant documents and electronic items.
“We have not established contact with Tarun Tejpal yet,” Mishra he however added.
