SANGUEM: Swiftly acting on report in Herald, the officials attached to the Assistant District Educational Inspector’s (ADEI) Office, Quepem, inspected the Government Primary School at Bhinde Molcornem where students are compelled to keep their umbrellas open during class hours to protect from rain water.
The ADEI Desai was reportedly accompanied by panch Sandesh Gaonkar and others.
Villagers who reached the venue during the course of the inspection, urged the officials to repair the school within three months failing which the villagers threatened to take future course of action.
Some heated arguments reportedly took place between the villagers and the local panch and the ADEI when the later allegedly tried to pull up the school teacher for allowing the media to take the photographs at which point the villagers intervened and informed the ADEI of the media being brought by them to highlight the issue.
Ex-panchayat Member Rajesh Gaonkar and a villager Deepak Pauskar informed the officials that on Friday late evening, the villagers replaced some nine to ten broken roof tiles as a temporary measure to prevent the rain water from entering into classroom.
Rajesh Gaonkar however informed the ADEI of the urgent need to get the roof top repaired as the wooden rafter and ribs have developed curves and there are possibilities of the rafter and ribs coming down at any time leading to injuries and or such other eventualities. Gaonkar informed the officials that it is in the best interest and safety of the students they are seeking immediate repair of the premises.
Earlier on Friday, ADEI Ankush Desai told Herald that the tender for repairing the school has already been advertised but the work tenders were yet to be released. Desai informed that the GSIDC is entrusted with the repair work of the government primary schools and the work orders are to be released by the GSIDC.
