CANACONA: Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday emphasised the importance of having adequate police presence to maintain vigilance along the coastline of Canacona taluka.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the State’s fifth Coastal Police station at the Talpona coast.
“Police presence along the coastline will boost public confidence regarding the government’s desire to address security concerns in the taluka,” stated Tawadkar.
The Coastal police station is a central government funded project at the Talpona jetty, which earlier housed an old Portuguese customs house. The sixth coastal police station is reportedly being set up at Ribandar.
SP (South) Allan D’Sa requested locals from the coast to be vigilant and to inform police regarding any suspicious movement of persons in the area.
Earlier in his welcome address, DGP Kishen Kumar assured a public-police commitment to work for the safety and to ensure that law and order is maintained, DIG O P Mishra later proposed the vote of thanks.
Director of Fisheries, Poinguinim Sarpanch Mahesh Naik, Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Bhushan Prabhugaonkar and others were also present on the occasion.
