PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the State government has taken adequate steps and is prepared to deal with the predicted third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The chief minister also said that the State government has constituted a task force and State Executive Committee (SEC) to deal with the third wave of COVID-19.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 100 beds fully-equipped medical infrastructure, set up at new super speciality block of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Bambolim, Sawant also lauded the efforts of corporates in supplementing the efforts of the State government in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in the State. Many corporates have helped Goa and across the country and Vedanta is one among them, he said.

The chief minister said that Vedanta has spent about Rs 10 crore to fight coronavirus. He said that apart from the Rs 10 crore, Vedanta has also supplied three tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) on a daily basis till date.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in his address said that currently everybody is talking about the possibility of the third wave and a lot of people are aware of children getting infected due to the coronavirus. Taking this into account, he said that the government has set up a new super specialty block at GMC and a series of meetings are being held to discuss the measures to be adopted for the preparedness of the third wave.
Vedanta Limited (iron and steel business) chief executive officer (CEO) Sauvick Mazumdar said that upgradation of healthcare facilities is extremely important in response to the COVID pandemic, which has put tremendous stress on existing healthcare infrastructure.
He hoped that the 100-bed fully-equipped medical infrastructure at GMCH will help strengthen the medical facilities in the State thereby, ultimately helping the people of Goa.
Vedanta Limited provided 20 critical care beds and 80 oxygenated beds along with 10 ventilators and fully equipped medical infrastructure including a central monitoring system, ABG machine, X-ray machines.
The function also attended by MLAs Francis Silveira and Antonio ‘Tony’ Fernandes, GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Vedanta deputy CEO Sandeep Jain and Sujat Shah.
