Adequate security arrangements ensure calm at Dabolim airport

Members of airport taxi union silently protest against the point-to-point service of the new operator

VASCO: Adequate security arrangements ensured that no untoward incident was reported at Dabolim International airport on Monday.
Security arrangement, with over 300 security personnel including four platoons of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), one company of Rapid Action Force (RAF), besides Goa Police was employed at the airport, ahead of the launching of new car rental counter by Taj India Tours.
The members of airport taxi union silently protested against the point-to-point service of the new operator, even as Airport Director BCH Negi launched the car rental counter (maxi cab).
“We will continue to ask State functionaries to act against illegal operations, if any, through the new car rental counter as they have obtained permissions for rent a car (maxi cab) and not of taxis that operate point-to-point service,” Counsel and UTA General Secretary Herculan Dourado  said.
Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Araundekar had assured us that he would not allow Taj Tours to operate point-to-point services, Dourado added.
Today we expressed our displeasure before the Additional Collector Agnelo Fernandes and are waiting for the meeting fixed on Tuesday and hope that things will change, he said, adding that they would use all democratic and legal ways of finding a solution to the issue.
