PANJIM: The State government-appointed Administrators across 175 village panchayats, will take charge from Monday to handle the day-to-day affairs of the local self-governing bodies as the five-year term of the elected members ended in July 18.
As per the order issued by the Directorate of Panchayat, the government officers, appointed as Administrators, will have to attend their respective village panchayat offices every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and during other exigent situations.
Sources said that the Administrators, those officially appointed from Sunday, June 19, will take affairs of panchayat into their hands from Monday. “The Administrator will perform the duties of the Sarpanch and deputy sarpanch, while the panchayat secretary will assist them,” said sources.
In case of any queries and for approvals and permissions, the Administrator will have to approach the Block Development Officer (BDO).
The government has decided to hold elections to these village panchayats post-monsoon, in a bid to follow the triple test mandate laid down by the Supreme Court for reservation of wards for Other Backward Class (OBC) communities.
Meanwhile, the Directorate will be issuing separate orders appointing Administrators on eleven other panchayats, whose term will be ending on July 7.
