PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday assured the concerned parents that a fresh schedule of admissions to first year MBBS and BDS courses would be announced soon.
After assurances that admissions would be held as per GCET and not NEET, the State government on Wednesday issued a press note saying admissions to these courses have been postponed.
“The first round of admission to MBBS and BDS courses, as notified in the prospectus and scheduled to be held on June 16, 2016 is being rescheduled. Revised schedule of admissions would be notified shortly,” the government note read.
This led to confusion and parents approached the chief minister with their grievances seeking to know why the admissions were postponed despite his statement that admissions this year would be held based on GCET and not NEET.
The chief minister again assured parents that admissions would be held based on GCET this year. “Let me assure you that admissions would be held as per GCET and not NEET,” he stated.
Asked why the notice was issued, he replied, “I have no idea why the admissions were postponed, I will look into it.”
When parents pointed out that the next hearing on NEET is slated for June 29, Parsekar assured the first round of admissions would be completed by then. “I assure that the schedule of admission would be announced before June 25,” Parsekar, who is also the education minister, said.
