MARGAO: The Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) from the Salcete and Mormugao taluka clusters have been urged by the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) to adopt resolutions opposing the diversion of Mhadei river.
This was done at the orientation programme for BMCs in the Salcete and Morgmuao clusters where awareness was created about the entire issue pertaining to the proposed diversion of the river by the Karnataka govenrment, which the State government is opposing.
According to GSBB member Secretary Pradip Sarmokadam all of the BMC chairpersons had responded positively and agreed to take action accordingly.
“Every BMC can play a vital role in preparing resolutions and expressing solidarity towards the Mhadei issue and supporting the government,” said Sarmokadam.
It may be recalled that various pancahyats in both the Salcete taluka and Mormugao taluka have already passed resolutions, demanding that the Central government withdraw the approval it had granted to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Karnataka government for the diversion of Mhadei river.
