PANJIM: In an attempt to allay any possible fear among youth on recruitments in the government sector, the government on Saturday announced its plan to advertise nearly 5000-5500 new jobs on regular basis in various departments by January 2018. The government is also in the process of drafting a policy to regularise the existing contractual staff.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, addressing the media on behalf of the government, laying to rest fears due to media reports stating that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had informed BJP MLAs of his decision not to recruit new staff, said, “There was some misleading information spread through media about government intention on recruitments. I am here to clear it. This is a youth-oriented government and the Chief Minister is working in that direction.”
He added, “The government is committed to youth employment and recruitment in government sector. Direct recruitment following all procedure of law will be the priority.”
Rane said that for the last over a month each department has been making presentations before the Chief Minister listing out their manpower requirement and the quantum of posts that have lapsed. He said the moratorium imposed on recruitments last year, would be lifted shortly.
“Based on that, we have assessed that between December-January 2018, nearly 5000-5500 posts in the government departments would be advertised. This will be in the first phase. In the second phase, another 3500-4000 jobs will be advertised,” the Minister said, adding that in his own department there are 1500 vacancies to be filled.
In November last year, the then Laxmikant Parsekar government had imposed a ban on new recruitments in government to ensure the smooth implementation of the VIIth Pay Commission to its over one lakh employees. The ban was partially lifted by Parrikar after he took charge in March this year.
Rane also said the government is in the process of drafting a policy to regularise contractual staff deployed in various departments. “The policy is being worked out in detail by the Chief Minister himself,” he said.
The government is also contemplating to adopt a method wherein recruitment files pending before various departments like finance, personnel, are cleared quickly. At present there are 1,10,433 employees and pensioners including work-charged employees in the government sector.
