MARGAO: Adv Anacleto Viegas on Saturday has termed as most disturbing and unfortunate the reported description of the accused in the case of alleged rape of a minor child in Vacso school by the chief minister in the Legislative Assembly.
He said the alleged rapist must be moving about with glee, for by now he may have trimmed his hair, coloured them ivory, blue or merry pink and mocking the police and politicians in the state with his disguise.
The chief minister’s disclosure of the investigation at this juncture will only help the accused to escape the arms of the law.
“Sensitizing the teaching community may be needed but insensitiveness of the chief minister and his cabinet minister towards the teaching fraternity is distressing. Perhaps the chief minister is not aware that the security of the school is the duty of management and the headmistress is only in charge of administration and academic matters. (Refer Rule 46 Clause h of the GOA Education Rules). A long standing and unblemished career of the Headmistress is being sullied by callous remarks of our insensitive politicians,” he added.
He demanded to know whether the Chief Minister had checked the record of the School Management to find out the numerous times the Headmistress has drawn the attention of the management for better Security of CCTV cameras and watchmen.
A responsible chief minister, before going public on the failure of the teachers and the staff, ought to check the record, he said, adding that the chief minister would do well by abstaining from slurring the names of teachers with untarnished records. The voiceless teachers should be spared the trauma of a smear campaign for the alleged failure of duties not entrusted to them by law, he added.
