BICHOLIM: Advalpal villagers and the panchayat have expressed concern over dumping of construction debris and a sharp turn on the Assonora-Advalpal road that has caused several accidents.
Since the last few days some unknown persons have dumped construction material along the road side. The material is also dumped near a sharp turn which has caused several accidents.
Sudan Naik, a resident of Advalpal, said that last year the road was widened but a sharp turn on the road was not cut. “There have been many accidents on this road and no one bothers about this. In the last one month there have been at least six accidents on this sharp turn and we feel that there should be some safety on this road,” Naik said.
Uttam Bicholkar, another resident, alleged that the road work was substandard. “There are many potholes and sharp turns on this road. Besides, this the road was constructed in a haphazard manner. There should be check on the work done by the contractor and the government should appoint someone to look into this matter,” Bicholkar said.
Speaking to Herald, Advalpal Sarpanch Laxata Desai said that some unknown persons have dumped construction debris along the road. “No doubt there is a sharp turn on this road and to add to this someone has dumped construction debris by the road side which blocks the view of the vehicles,” Desai said adding, “We will take up this matter in the next panchayat meeting and would also inform the MLA about this.”
“In next few days the panchayat will take initiative to remove the dump,” Desai informed.
