PANJIM: The Captain of Ports has asked mariners to ply around the partially collapsed Borim bridge only during high tide. During a site inspection, CoP experts found that the area within and around the bridge alignment has ‘become underwater navigational hazard/obstruction’.
“Due to the recent collapse of the middle section of the old Borim bridge span, the locality within and around the bridge alignment has become underwater navigational hazard/obstruction. The inspection has confirmed that the least depth within the above said locality has reduced to 2.5 meters, below the chart datum,” a statement issued by the government says.
As such, all owners/masters of barges, passenger launches, ferry boats, tindels of fishing trawlers and operators of the mechanised and non-mechanised crafts, including tourist  boats, cruise boats, etc plying in River Mandovi are warned to navigate/transit at the said area during high water period only. “Violations shall be viewed seriously,” it stated.
