AFC Cup: Mohun Bagan SG Aim to Extend Unbeaten Run; Odisha FC Eyes Second Straight Win

Goa: Mohun Bagan Super Giant is poised to strengthen their chances of advancing to the next round of the AFC Cup as they prepare for a challenging encounter against the Bashundhara Kings in Dhaka on Tuesday.

In Group D of the AFC Cup, Mohun Bagan SG currently leads the standings. They are the only undefeated team in their group, amassing seven points from three matches. In contrast, the Bashundhara Kings occupy the second spot in the group, with four points from three matches. A victory for Mohun Bagan SG in Bangladesh would create a crucial six-point gap between them and the Bashundhara Kings, making this match a pivotal fixture.

During their previous encounter in October, Juan Ferrando’s team secured a 2-2 draw against the Bashundhara Kings at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Mohun Bagan SG held the lead twice during the game, but the Bangladeshi side managed to level the score twice, ultimately sharing a point.

For the upcoming match, Mohun Bagan SG will be without the injured Anwar Ali. Additionally, there is uncertainty regarding the participation of Hugo Boumous and Jason Cummings after their absence from the team’s 3-2 victory against Jamshedpur FC.

Meanwhile, Odisha FC is gearing up to face Maziya S&RC on Matchday 4 of the AFC Cup 2023-24 at the Maldives National Football Stadium. After a shaky start to their AFC season, Odisha FC is looking to build on the momentum of their impressive 6-1 victory over Maziya S&RC in their last home match. The Kalinga Warriors have shown strength in set pieces, cohesive teamwork, and a potent attack, highlighted by Fall’s brace.

In preparation for the match, Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera expressed excitement about the game and emphasized the team’s readiness to compete, despite the challenging fixture schedule.
