By now, many of you would have read and seen this. After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, the story of a former Afghan Minister who left a year ago, now delivering pizzas in Germany literally drowned the internet.
Afghanistan’s former Communications and IT Minister Syed Ahmad Shah Saadat, has taken refuge in Leipzig, Germany, a town in former East Germany. He has been spotted regularly on the streets of the town on his bicycle as a pizza delivery person.
A year ago, he had left Afghanistan following differences with the country’s then-President Ashraf Ghani, along with the fear of the Taliban.
He showed us what dignity of labour really means
As a Communications and IT minister, he could have made a lot of wealth and built lavish bungalows all over the world and live just about anywhere. But he chose to flee to a small town and sell pizzas for a living. In his act, he chose to teach the world what dignity of labour really means. Without bungalows and cars, he showed how you can earn your living through simple and honest means.
Would you not say that he’s the richest politician ever?
Can any Goan minister ever hope to be in his shoes?
These are large shoes to fill because they have dignity, pride and hard work in them. Can any Goan politician ever do what Syed Ahmad Shah Saadat has done? What a contrast to a Goa where we have seen quite recently, ministers being booed and shooed away by the people for decisions they have taken, and asked them to leave.
To change and alter lifestyles, from a time when his word was law in his field of work to the job he is doing now is impossible to imagine.
But the ex-minister sleeps, a contended and proud man and
this is a lot of wealth. And that is real richness.
