MARGAO: Margao Town Police solved a murder that was committed 10 years back and arrested the murderer from Kannur in Karnataka.
On March 2, 2019 one Ismail Shaikh, resident of Aquem-Margao, complained to the police that when his labourers were digging the bathroom-cum-toilet attached to his storeroom they found skeletal remains including a skull.
The police obtained an exhumation order from the Sub Divisional Magistrate and extracted the skeletal remains and commenced investigations. The owner of the land Ismail informed that he was working in Dubai for the last about 20 years.
He disclosed that he had a couple from Bijapur living in the storeroom as caretakers when he was abroad and further disclosed that in June 2008 the lady named Renuka telephoned him to inform that the male person living with her was missing and she further said she was going to Bijapur to look out for him.
Sometime later, the girl living with the couple called up to say that they were still stuck in Bijapur due to some property matter and since then there was no contact with the family nor did the owner know their address in Bijapur.
However, police came to know that one Tiraffa Tatkal who was known to the couple used to visit them very often and hence the police traced him and he revealed quite a lot. He said, the couple used to quarrel regularly and that the woman along with her son used to beat the man Bhimsen Kodagnoor.
Apparently, Renuka who was married to one Jattappa Doranahalli, was living with Bhimsen along with her three children from her husband. As her husband Jattappa use to come to Goa from Bijapur to visit her, the couple used to quarrel.
He admitted knowing that they had a major quarrel in June 2008 and when he visited their house the next day, Renuka informed him that Bhimsen had left for his native place the previous night after the quarrel.
The police then rushed to Bijapur to track Renuka and her children only to learn that the son Parshuram Doranahalli had sold all their properties there and moved to Kunoor and hence the police led by Police Inspector Suraj Gauns rushed to Kunoor, where they traced Parshuram.
On interrogation Parshuram, who is now aged 35 admitted to committing the murder along with his mother because Bhimsen used to harass and beat his mother. On the day of the incident, the son and mother beat Bhimsen due to which he fell unconscious and then Parshuram strangulated his mother’s paramour and buried the body in the bathroom.
The family thereafter left Margao for Bijapur where the neighbours and family member suspecting something amiss kept probing for information regarding Bhimsen to such an extent that Renuka committed suicide and thereafter Parshuram shifted to Kunoor and his sisters were married.
Police have booked Parshuram under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code for murder and destroying evidence.
