Red corner notice issued against Pradeep Birring

PANJIM: Nearly three months after he went into hiding, suspended Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) engineer Suhas Fal Desai was finally arrested on Tuesday, in Ruby Residency building collapse case.
Crime Branch (CB) sleuths arrested him from Margao municipal office, a day after he returned to Goa from his ‘honeymoon.’ Superintendent of Police Kartik Kashyap confirmed the news though he denied sharing further information on the case.
The suspended officer is among several other government officers booked for culpable homicide after the ill-fated Ruby Residency building collapsed on January 4, afternoon at Chawdi Canacona, killing 31 labourers and injuring several others.
Fal Desai was on honeymoon with his wife when the case was registered against him. He continued to remain out of Goa before deciding to return, probably prepared to face police action. He was picked from Margao municipal office, on ip-off by informants. However, the two proclaimed offenders Pradeep Singh Birring and Jagdeep Sehgal – former directors of Mumbai-based Bharat Developers and Realtors Pvt Ltd – are still at large. Sources in the police department reveal that Interpol has issued red-corner notice against UK citizen Birring.
“The Interpol has been informed about Birring’s involvement in the crime and accordingly, the officers issued red-corner notice against him which is equivalent to an international arrest warrant. Sehgal is said to be hiding in India,” the officer disclosed.
The Crime Branch sleuths have sought Birring’s residential and other details from their counterparts in UK, through Interpol. The validity of the non-bailable warrants against them, which were extended by a local court by two months, are about to expire this month.
