PANJIM: After  downpour in Goa over the last two weeks, the south west monsoon on Saturday took a breather, bringing much respite to the people especially for weekend shopping. However after a brief dry spell, the heavy rains continued to lash Panjim in the evening.
The Indian Meteorological Department, Goa Observatory has forecast heavy to very heavy showers for the state over the next 24 hours. Fishermen have also been asked not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours considering the rough sea conditions.
“Heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over Goa during next 24-hours,” the IMD bulletin stated, adding that ‘winds will be south westerly with wind speed of 45 to 50 kmph temporarily reaching 60 kmph in gust and sea will be rough’.
The entire State of Goa, for last two weeks, received very high rainfall accompanied by winds. The heavy rains had brought misery to almost all the low-lying areas and agricultural fields with standing crops inundated.
Observatory in-charge K V Singh“We expect normal monsoon this year. So far rainfall has been very good,” he said. The south west monsoon touched Goa in the first week of June, this year.
