VASCO: Excavation work by Indian Oil Adani Gas company is allegedly causing havoc with utility services and infrastructure in Vasco.
On Monday, four main pipelines of Vasco were damaged due to digging by Adani Gas and the water supply to Vasco town was severely affected.
Vasco MLA Krishna Daji Salkar had said that they had been told to talk to all agencies and take care while digging since all utilities are laid out in the town. “They did this work properly in a few places, but then they hit the power lines and cast Vasco into darkness for 18 hours,” Daji Salkar said.
They had started the work 20 to 24 days ago and were warned not to damage the power and water lines. They have now been asked to stop the work and only carry out the work after the monsoons are over, coordinating with the PWD, power, water supply, and sewerage agencies.
Hardly had Daji Salkar apologized to the people for the breakdown in water supply, when news came that a section of the road in Vasco had caved in on Tuesday, due to the digging. It appears that the road caved in due to water leakage.
Traffic Police arrived at the site and put barricades to prevent danger to motorists and pedestrians. Asked whether action would be taken against the contractor for playing havoc with public infrastructure, Mormugao councilor Shami Salkar replied in the affirmative but did not reply what action would be taken. The work would be taken up on priority, she said.
