PANJIM: Despite the delay in the monsoon’s arrival, the State has received 17 percent excess rainfall this month, taking the total seasonal rainfall to 37 inches.
Stating this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa observatory on Monday said that this is 6.6 inches above the normal for this period. “The State has received 17 percent excess rainfall that is above normal till June 27,” IMD Goa director VK Mini said.
Mini said that more heavy rainfall is expected till July 1. “The southwest monsoon has been very active over Goa with conditions favourable for heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms,” she said.
Considering the rough sea conditions due to high speed of south-westerly winds, IMD has warned fishermen not to venture into sea for the next 24 hours. “Winds will be mainly south-westerly with speeds of 45-50kmph temporarily reaching 55 kmph in gusts. Sea will be very rough due to the waves,” she explained.
