PANJIM: After four-year-old hiatus, the State government has convened convention of components of Comunidades on January 14 and has also appointed five-member Commission comprising comunidade members to receive inputs and to finalise the agenda.
The Revenue Department stated that convention of members/components of the Comunidades of all the three zones will be held at NIO, Dona Paula at 10 am on January 14, as per Article 652 of the Code of Comunidades.
To prepare the agenda, the government has appointed a five-member Commission comprising Estifano C D’Mello, Attorney of Pilerne Comunidade, Nelson Joe Fernandes, Attorney of Assagao Comunidade, Marvin Stanislaus Gonsalves, Member of Bambolim Comunidade, Savio Joaquim Filipe Correia, President Comunidade of Margao and Avinash Tavares, President of Comunidade of Colva. Savio Filipe Correia has been appointed as the moderator of the Commission.
The Administrators of Comunidades will share the list of two delegates to attend the convention latest by December 26. The suggestions are invited from the members and components of the Comunidades to include them in the agenda points latest by January 2, which have to be submitted to the respective Administrator of Comunidade or directly be sent on the email id of the Commission i.e. art652meeting2024@gmail.com.
The agenda for the convention will be finalised by the Commission by January 5, and will be uploaded/available for information on https://northgoa.gov.in/ and the South Goa Collector on https://southgoa.nic.in/ by January 8, apart from service, through normal mode.
Comunidade of Guirim president Tulio De Souza said that convention of 223 Comunidades was pending since January 2019 after it was adjourned due to pending elections of managing committees of several age-old bodies. He said again the convention was postponed on two occasions, first in March 20220 in view of Covid-19 disease and again in 2021 due to municipal elections.
De Souza, who was the member of the outgoing Commission, said that the convention has to be held once in five years under Article 652 of the Code of Comunidades. The convention will provide an opportunity to components to discuss and deliberate upon various issues faced by Comunidades. He also hoped that convention will pass a resolution to repair and renovate the offices of Administrator of Comunidades situated at Margao and Mapusa.
