MARGAO: A Chandor resident, who was involved in a group clash late Saturday night in the parking lot of a restaurant at Benaulim, was arrested by Colva Police, while preparing to board a United Kingdom-bound flight at Mopa airport.
Colva PI Therron D’Costa disclosed that based on a complaint by Gary Adrian Rodrigues from Orlim, Samuel Mascarenhas from Chandor has been booked under Sections 323, 324 and 427 of IPC for causing hurt with a weapon.
Samuel, who was about to board a flight to the UK, is now cooling his heels in police lockup.
In his complaint, Gary stated that a group comprising Samuel and Keshav from Chandor, Siddesh from Raia and Akash Atvekar from Margao Housing Board assaulted four persons in the parking lot of a restaurant near Khareband bridge in Benaulim.
Those who were assaulted include Adriel da Costa from Mandopa, Navelim, Noiren Mitch from Navelim, Jaime Caldeira from Navelim and Maebern Sonal Furtado from Chinchinim.
The complainant’s friend Aloysius Barretto from Carmona tried to stop the assault, but the four attacked him and the complainant as well.
Further, when the complainant along with another friend Gordon Rodrigues from Orlim were taking the injured Aloysius to a hospital, Maebern assaulted them at the Khareband Bridge with an iron rod besides causing more injuries, he also damaged the vehicle in which they were travelling.
The PI informed that Aloysius is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital and they have seized the weapons used in the assault and also the vehicle used in the crime.
